As soon as you occupy your home pronounce blessings for it from the very beginning. Reaffirm that blessing year after year for as long as you dwell there. Blessing a house (or an apartment or wherever you live) is simply governing over it and affirming that it belongs to you and devoting it to the Lord. It is encouraging the Spirit of God to come and everything else to leave.
The blessing that came to Obededom and his household because the Ark of the Covenant was left in his yard for several months after it had been in captivity by the Philistines.
2 Samuel 6 (KJV)
10 So David would not remove the ark of the Lord unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.
11 And the ark of the Lord continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the Lord blessed Obededom, and all his household.
12 And it was told king David, saying, The Lord hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.
Anywhere the Ark resided, blessings flourished. That is because the Ark contained the very presence of God. Where God's presence is, there is blessing and hope. When we bless our homes we make room for God to take up residence in every room and over all possessions.
Your house blessing will be on the basis of your rightful supremacy over your own home:
Joshua 24 (KJV)
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Spiritually you also determine who has entry to your dwelling:
20 If ye forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
21 And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the Lord.
If you allow people to live in your home that do not serve God, those people will in return will involve you in the harm that comes to them due to them not serving God.
2 Samuel 7 (KJV)
27 For thou, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.
28 And now, O Lord God, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
29 Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord God, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.
Remove Spiritual Garbage
Pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal to you what displeases it. Books, magazines, music, videos, DVDs, statues, artwork, etc. What internet sites are accessed through your home? What television programs are allowed in? What radio stations are listened to?
Is your house set in orderliness? Are relationships in good shape? Is wickedness (sin) being accepted in your home? What is the spiritual atmosphere that is being allowed now that you are the legal authority where you live.
Perhaps you do not have total control over your home because of others that live with you who are making ungodly choices and bringing impurity in. PRAY. Declare that this house belongs to God and everything else has to leave. Keep yourself holy and pure and bring light to your home until everything else leaves.
How to Bless Your Home
Anoint your doors and windows with essential oils (they won't go rancid). Eucalyptus, Lavender and Frankincense are my favorites. List of 100 Essential Oils, Buy Walk the parameter of the property consecrating it and placing it under the lordship of Jesus Christ.
Pray over each room asking God to use it for his glory. Thank the Lord for providing you with a place to live. Ask for angels to be posted at all the doors and windows, disallowing anything evil from entering in. Speak out loud that you are countering any curse in this house with the blood of Jesus and you are taking authority in the name of Jesus.
Suppose there is a particular spot in your house that feels disturbing. You might stand in that spot and say something like; "I speak peace here in the name of Jesus. I invite you to come, Holy Spirit, and fill this place. Fear (or whatever), leave." A song or hymn might also be appropriate.
As you live in your house, fill it with praise and constant thanksgiving. You will love the atmosphere in your home and everyone who enters in will love it too.
Ezra 3 (KJV)
9 Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites.
9 Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites.
10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.
11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.
